Home of Glyndwr's famous Welsh parliament.

The clocktower in Machynlleth

Machynlleth is a compact market town, famous now mainly for its connections with Owain Glyndwr. It was here that he was crowned and summoned his parliament in 1404, and in 1998 a credible campaign was mounted to make Machynlleth the home of the new Welsh assembly. The building which is claimed as his parliament house is probably a little too late in date, but the seventeenth-century manorial court house over the road is certainly genuine.
