Bronze Age burial mounds on the skyline

Mynydd Machen

Grid reference on route: ST 22758 89895

The Cistercian Way passes just below the steep climb up to Mynydd Machen. Modern phone masts, a trig point and a Bronze Age burial mound top the skyline. It's a tough climb but worth it for the view. The mound on the top would have been a waymark for pilgrims. Like us they would have walked below it - probably on the north side, to cross the Machen ridge and down into Bedwas.
