This is as worked out by Conwy Ramblers and walked in 1998.
It has not been checked since. If you try it out, or if you can suggest improvements, use the blog and let us know how you get on.
From Maenan, cross back over the A470 and walk up the steep metalled road signposted ‘Cadair Ifan Goch’. Where the road forks turn left, walk past Capel Soar (now a house) and take the signposted path to the left. Walk north through the woods, diverting to the left at a signpost to Cadair Ifan Goch, a crag with panoramic views up and down the Conwy and over the mountains of Snowdonia to the west. Return to the main path and turn left to go northwards through the woods. After passing two houses on the left, take the track and path to the right over a small bridge to Plas Iwrwg. Turn left onto the road, right at the T junction, then left at the next junction to walk north over Mynydd Cauedig and past Llyn Siberi. At the end of the lake, the road bends sharply to the right then follows a series of dog-legs down the hill with the broad sweep of the lower Conwy valley below you. There are tracks leading off through the trees, but the woods belong to the Bodnant estate and the gates are firmly locked.
At Tal-y-cafn cross road, railway and river in quick succession and turn right immediately after the river bridge. Follow this minor road to the junction with the B5106 at Groes Inn. Turn right on the B5106 and walk along the grass verge to Baclaw. Take the signed path to the right. In 100 yards turn left at the Y junction and bear at 35° past the caravans and north to the stile. Cross the stile and go north through the new caravan site to a bridge and stile. Keep north across grass and tarmac to the signpost. Follow the signs past the wash-house to a stile and into the field. Cross past a large tree to the NE and leave by the gateway. Cross the next field E to the stile. Walk north through the next field to the stile and go north and round to the east across the next field, crossing the gully by the soil heap, to the signposted gate on the road.
Turn left on the road and walk 140 yards to where the road bears left. Cross the stile and keep straight ahead. Walk north across two fields: the TV and radio mast is visible on your left. The next stile to the north is hidden in the gorse bushes. Go NNW to a stile on the right of the field then W to a signpost at the junction of the paths. Cross the stile by Benarth Wood and follow the footpath steeply down by the woods with a view of Conwy town ahead. Leave the woods by the stile and cross the field to the main road. Turn left on the road and cut across the car park to your right. Walk through the underpass to the town centre and up to the medieval parish church, all that remains of Aberconwy Abbey.
